My friend Courtney is a budding local cos-play/geek glamour photographer. She loves all things game and sci-fy related. She has been developing her skills as both a photographer and a costume designer for her genre, and recently acquired her first cos-play costume. Princess Zelda! After a disappointing experience with a photographer and model group event, I offered to give her and her costume a trial spin in front of the camera. We picked out the perfect location, an old abandoned saw mill which reminds me of the castle ruins in the Zelda game that I played 20-something years ago!

We got super lucky with the weather, as it wasn’t a brilliantly sunny day, but it wasn’t super over cast and grey either. The lighting was perfect for this fantasy shoot. And it wasn’t too cold or hot. Oddly, this photo shoot was a feast for the senses, even for us. We watched a monstrous toad walk across our  shoot set, and salmon spawning in the river nearby. We got may honks from people passing by on the gravel road too! I brought alone my practice bow, and it really complimented her attire. I only wish we had had a sword to play with too!

We had a fantastic time, even though we got pretty lost on our way to the location. I’ve only ever been there twice, and got there different ways both times, and Courtney had only been once. Neither of us had been the ones driving when we had gone, so the details were a little fuzzy! But we made it, and enjoyed ourselves immensely.

I suppose this was my first cos-play as well. Hooray for an amazing set of firsts for us both. If you would like more information about cos-play feel free to contact Courtney at Undiscovered Photography. If you feel inspired to have a fantasy shoot all of your own, or want more information please contact me, I’d love to chat with you!
