Calia’s miracle baby is here! Welcome to the world Elizabeth Violet Marie Service. Sorry for the Harry Potter reference but my middle daughter has just started reading the books, and this is an apt description for this little girl when ever she comes to my studio! She was a very unco-operative baby during what could have been a lovely newborn session- the room was summer day warm, the baby bag was soft and snuggly, there was quiet white noise in the background, and the light was nice and mellow. I mean, hasn’t she read the material on newborn photography-everything was set up perfect! She did her very best to not be photographed that afternoon. But I just rolled with it an kept going, as I had to keep Calia entertained while her fiance and some friends set up her surprise shower.

I soldiered on, and used all my baby whisperer techniques on her to keep her settled enough to snap a few images here and there. She only slept for about 10 minutes through out the 2 hour session, so many of her images have her bright-eyed and full of mischief.

And the sibling and family photos we did at the end have a pretty unhappy baby in them. But at least her sisters and parents will have images to look back at a year from now and remember how cute her little baby howls were, while they listen to her really scream and holler like any 1-year-old is bound to.

In addition to the sibling and family photos, I also took some of all our children together. This is one of the best images of all 7 of our children together. You can just barely make out Azaelea in the back who was just as unhappy with being photographed as little Elizabeth was!

I don’t normally do newborn photography; ¬†despite the challenges of this session I enjoyed it and wouldn’t mind doing more here and there. It would be interesting to see what a session would be like with a sleepy baby! Thank you for letting me capture these first precious memories of little Elizabeth, and congratulations Calia and Geoff (and Catherine, Allyson and Harissa).

More to come on the Blog-Earth goddess, Greek Pin Up, and Greek Goddess!
